High Fashion Takes Center Stage at the US Open
Trendsetters are elevating the US Open into an elite fashion showcase, complete with tennis-themed stilettos, elegant designer attire, and vibrant neon-green manicures, as one attendee remarked, “I’m primarily here for the fashion.”
Fashion enthusiasts are rivaling the Kentucky Derby in style, donning outfits that can cost upwards of $15,000, all while seeking visibility on social media and television.
“I’m not focused on the tennis; I’m here for the fabulous outfits,” stated Elena Miglino, a 38-year-old makeup artist, during Thursday night’s events.
In one standout ensemble, Nichole Schier brought a Kate Spade tennis-inspired purse and complementary nails to the occasion.
Additionally, Schier showcased a bracelet crafted by her daughter that read “US Open.”
“I’m thinking of sharing a post on social media, perhaps a humorous TikTok,” Miglino, who previously appeared on “Paris Hilton’s My New BFF,” added.
Emma Goodwyn, a 27-year-old Tennessee mom, impressed spectators at Arthur Ashe Stadium in a white tennis skirt paired with creatively designed high heels featuring tennis balls.
“My husband is a tennis enthusiast; I embraced the tennis aesthetic as part of my style,” the Nashville resident explained, crediting her heels’ design to Zendaya’s sporty look during the promotion of the movie “Challengers” last year.
Other attendees also showcased their distinctive takes on court-side fashion.
“This year, I wanted to playfully interpret the tennis ball,” shared Nichole Schier, a banker from West Orange, NJ, who sported a tennis ball-shaped purse alongside neon-green nail polish.
“I’m in it for both the tennis and the fashion,” Schier noted, donning a fitted white skirt, a fedora adorned with a tennis ball scarf, and a “US Open” bracelet.
The attendees flaunted a variety of outfits, featuring neck ties, Ralph Lauren polos, and designer loafers, with many investing significantly in their looks.
Alexander Hahn, 33, from Dallas, showcased Gucci socks, a Lacoste shirt, a $12,000 Rolex, and a bespoke tennis ring hailing from Florence, Italy, with his total ensemble estimated at around $15,000.
“Given the significance of this tournament, we opted for a more refined attire,” he said, referring to himself and his wife, Sierra, who appeared on the venue’s “kiss cam.”
“It’s about dressing up for the experience,” he added.
Twenty-three-year-old tennis aficionado Samuel Phillips made a striking impression in white linen trousers, a soft blue Adidas polo, and white Stan Smith sneakers.
“I recognized this event as a platform for fashion among fans,” he stated.
“I thought, ‘I need to bring my fashion A-game.’”
