Cheerleader Withdraws from University amid Serious Charges
Laken Snelling, a cheerleader at the University of Kentucky, has officially withdrawn from school following her arrest for allegedly concealing her deceased newborn in a closet.
The 21-year-old left the Lexington institution and is no longer affiliated with the STUNT team, as confirmed by spokesperson Jay Blanton on Friday. This decision comes just three days after a court directive mandated Snelling to stay at her parents’ home until her next court date.
Although the university commenced its new semester on August 25, it has not specified the exact date of Snelling’s withdrawal.
While her name is absent from the 2025 STUNT team roster, she is listed among team members for the previous two years.
Snelling’s arrest occurred on August 31, when police responded to an off-campus residence following reports of an unresponsive infant.
Authorities found the baby, later identified as a boy, wrapped in a towel and placed inside a black trash bag within a closet. Tragically, the infant was pronounced dead at the scene, although no cause of death has been released by medical examiners.
Snelling reportedly confessed to officers that she gave birth to the child and had attempted to conceal the birth by disposing of all associated evidence inside the same trash bag as the newborn.
She faces charges that include abuse of a corpse, evidence tampering, and failing to report the birth of an infant. Snelling has pleaded not guilty to these allegations.
After her arrest, Snelling was released on a $100,000 bond and is currently under house arrest at her parents’ residence in Tennessee until her court appearance scheduled for September 26.
Additionally, claims from a former classmate’s family describe Snelling as a "bully" preoccupied with her social standing and willing to resort to aggressive behavior. The family conveyed that her actions led to severe distress among peers, with accusations of an incident where Snelling allegedly attempted to run over a student with her vehicle.
Snelling was previously in a relationship with former college basketball player Conner Jordan, although it remains unclear if he is the father of the deceased infant. Pictures depicting their relationship have circulated on social media prior to her arrest.
