UMass Lowell Locked Down Amid Armed Threat Reports
The UMass Lowell campus is currently under lockdown following sightings of an individual allegedly carrying a firearm near the Riverview Suites residence hall on the first day of classes.
In response to the situation, the university issued a community alert describing the suspect as a 5’5 Asian male dressed in a gray or white sweatshirt and black shorts, reportedly armed with a long firearm.
Massachusetts State Police acknowledged the circulation of a video online that purportedly shows the individual in question. Local police have arrived at the campus to further investigate the matter, but the authenticity of the video has not yet been confirmed.
A substantial police presence has been reported on campus, as authorities work to manage the situation.
Representative Lori Trahan from Massachusetts shared on social media that she is closely monitoring the evolving situation, urging residents to heed the directives provided by Lowell police and UMass Lowell officials.
As of now, there is no confirmed information regarding injuries or the firing of shots at the university, which is located approximately 45 minutes north of Boston and serves around 12,000 students.
This is an ongoing story with information still developing; updates will be provided as they become available.
