Daylight Shooting of Two Teens in Bronx Raises Concerns
Two teenage boys became victims of a shooting incident on Monday afternoon at a Bronx NYCHA complex, as a gunman dressed in black opened fire on the premises, according to law enforcement and sources.
A 16-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to his right arm, while a 15-year-old was hit in the back on the left side of his buttocks. The incident transpired behind a building located on Schiefflin Avenue near 226th Drive South, part of the Baychester Houses, as reported by authorities.
The younger victim indicated to investigators that he was playing basketball when he was shot, sources revealed.
Both boys were subsequently transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where their conditions were reported to be stable, according to police.
The reasons behind the shooting remain ambiguous, and investigators could not confirm whether the victims were specifically targeted.
The assailant, clad in all black, fled the scene in a white sedan and was still at large as of Tuesday, law enforcement stated.
This shooting occurs in light of a previous violent incident just a week prior, where 14-year-old Angel Mendoza was fatally stabbed by a group of teenagers at Williamsbridge Oval Playground in Norwood, a case described by sources as one where the victim was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
During that incident, a 17-year-old was also injured, suffering stab wounds to his shoulder and stomach, but was reported to be in stable condition.
In connection to Mendoza’s death, four teenagers have been arrested: Andrew Ansah, 18; Jordan Williams, 18; and two minors aged 15 and 16, whose identities have not been disclosed due to their age.
