Title: DHS Launches Operation in Chicago Amidst Local Protests Against Federal Intervention
WASHINGTON — On Monday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) initiated a significant enforcement action targeting illegal immigrants in Chicago, following demonstrations by local Democrats against President Trump’s proposed increase in federal law enforcement presence in the city.
DHS announced the commencement of "Operation Midway Blitz," citing the tragic death of Katie Abraham, who was reportedly killed in a hit-and-run incident involving illegal immigrant Julio Cucul-Bol. The agency’s tweet indicated that the operation is focused on apprehending criminal illegal immigrants who have come to Chicago, encouraged by the sanctuary policies upheld by Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker.
The statement further expressed that "President Trump and Secretary Noem support the victims of crimes committed by illegal aliens, while Governor Pritzker favors those individuals."
ICE has reportedly been preparing for this crackdown for over a week, signaling that enforcement actions were on the horizon.
The current initiative does not reflect a full-scale law enforcement operation, as Trump has recently indicated a willingness to defer to requests from local officials, including Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who is also a Democrat.
“We’re eager to assist in Chicago,” Trump noted in a speech in Washington on Monday morning, adding that the administration is "waiting for a call" from the city.
