Tragic Fire Claims Lives at Massachusetts Assisted Living Facility
Officials reported Monday that a devastating fire at an assisted living residence in Massachusetts resulted in the deaths of at least nine individuals, with 30 others receiving medical attention.
Five firefighters sustained injuries while combating the severe blaze, which erupted around 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Gabriel House Assisted Living Residence in Fall River, according to local fire department representatives.
Fall River Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon confirmed to WJAR that the facility, which accommodates approximately 70 residents, has experienced both fatalities and numerous injuries.
On Monday morning, some of the deceased remained within the facility, as indicated by Fall River Mayor Paul Coogan, who also reported that at least one hospitalized patient is in critical condition.
Investigators are currently probing the origin of the fire, which was confined to a specific section of the building.
“This represents a heartbreaking tragedy for the families affected and the broader Fall River community,” Chief Bacon stated. “On behalf of the Fall River Fire Department, I extend our deepest sympathies to those mourning today.”
