Stephen Colbert Pokes Fun at Kamala Harris for Stumbling on a Straightforward Query

Stephen Colbert needles Kamala Harris after she can't answer simple question

Kamala Harris Struggles to Identify Democratic Party Leader During Colbert Interview

Former Vice President Kamala Harris faced difficulty naming the current leader of the Democratic Party during her recent appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," leaving the host visibly frustrated.

Colbert posed the question to Harris following her announcement that she would not be pursuing the California governorship in the upcoming election, seeking to clarify who she sees as leading the party.

Harris did not respond directly, choosing instead to avoid naming any specific Democrat. “There are lots of leaders,” she stated.

Not convinced, Colbert pressed for an answer, suggesting that there is usually a leader within the party and inquired if any names came to mind.

Harris maintained her position, emphasizing, “I think there are a lot — I’m not going to go through names because then I’m going to leave somebody out and then I’m going to hear about it.”

She added, “But let me just say this. It’s a mistake for all of us who wish to navigate through this to place the burden on any single individual. It truly relies on all of us.”

Colbert, clearly unsatisfied with the vague response, concluded the interview shortly thereafter.

Among the Democrats she could have potentially mentioned were former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and California Governor Gavin Newsom, both of whom have garnered significant support among party members in an early 2028 presidential primary poll.

Other prominent congressional figures she could have cited include Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).

This appearance marked Harris’ eighth on Colbert’s show, coinciding with the promotion of her new book, “107 Days,” which she described as an in-depth exploration of her presidential campaign experiences.
