Man Stabbed in Head During Morning Subway Incident, Suspect Arrested
A violent incident unfolded on Monday morning as a man was stabbed multiple times while sleeping on a subway train, generating chaos and leaving blood across the carriages, as per law enforcement reports and witnesses.
The 56-year-old victim was dozing on a southbound No. 1 train near the 145th Street station in Harlem around 6:10 a.m. when a 20-year-old assailant suddenly attacked him, inflicting at least three stab wounds to the head, authorities confirmed.
Transit District 3 officers, stationed at the nearby station, intervened after noticing a disturbance occurring towards the rear of the train.
The attack led to a physical confrontation that extended into an adjacent train car, resulting in bloodshed in both vehicles, according to reports from the scene.
Police apprehended the suspect at the site, but as of late morning, formal charges had yet to be determined.
Emergency services transported the injured individual to Mount Sinai Morningside Medical Center, where he is currently in stable condition with injuries including puncture wounds and bleeding from the back of his head.
A knife utilized in the assault was retrieved by investigators.
