Suspicious Powder Found at ICE Office in Manhattan Triggers Evacuation
On Thursday afternoon, envelopes with an unidentified white powder were found at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office located in Manhattan, leading authorities to evacuate the federal facility.
Emergency response teams arrived at 26 Federal Plaza, near Foley Square, at approximately 3:55 p.m. following reports of the suspicious substance discovered in room 936, situated on the ninth floor of the Jacob K. Javits Federal Office Building, as confirmed by the New York City Fire Department.
Authorities have evacuated the building as hazardous materials teams conduct an investigation; fortunately, there have been no reported injuries from the incident.
“New Yorkers, I have received preliminary updates regarding the situation at 26 Federal Plaza, where envelopes containing white powder were detected,” Mayor Eric Adams stated via a post on X.
He expressed reassurance, stating, “I also want to confirm that there are currently no known injuries.”
Test results are awaited while the fire department’s hazmat crews secure the area.
