Search Underway for Missing New Yorker in Turks and Caicos
Authorities in Turks and Caicos are investigating the disappearance of a New York man.
Brian Tarrence, 51, from New York City, was last spotted at the Paradise Inn on June 25, as per a missing persons notice released by the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force last week.
A private investigator engaged by Tarrence’s family, confirmed to NBC that video footage showed him exiting his condo at around 4:00 a.m. on June 25 and making his way toward Grace Bay.
According to the investigator, Carl DeFazio, Tarrence’s wife was asleep when he left the condominium. She informed DeFazio that it was atypical for him to be awake at such an early hour.
“She retired early, around seven o’clock,” DeFazio stated. “She checked on him twice; he appeared to be watching TV. When she woke at 7:00 a.m., he was missing.”
The day before his disappearance, DeFazio noted that the couple had taken a boat tour.
Tarrence’s wife expressed to the investigator that her husband had seemed “a little different than usual.” DeFazio suggested this behavior may have been linked to dehydration or other reasons.
Local authorities did not respond to inquiries from NBC. A spokesperson for the State Department confirmed awareness of a missing U.S. citizen in Turks and Caicos.
“When a U.S. citizen goes missing, we collaborate closely with local authorities during their search efforts and strive to maintain communication with families when appropriate,” the spokesperson stated. “The safety of U.S. citizens abroad is our utmost priority, and we are prepared to provide consular support as needed.”
DeFazio added that Tarrence’s wife noted his speech seemed off the night before his disappearance. He also mentioned that Tarrence left the condo with his phone, but there have been no recorded credit card transactions since he vanished.
The investigator revealed that local law enforcement is attempting to access Tarrence’s phone records while his family members are actively searching for him on the island.
DeFazio revealed that Tarrence’s wife initially returned to the United States but plans to return to the island soon.
