Tragic Family Tragedy: Young Man Charged with Murder of Parents, Sister, and Pet

A young man is facing serious charges after allegedly murdering his parents, teenage sister, and family dog, dragging their remains to a ravine close to his home in New Mexico, according to prosecutors.

Adlai Mestre, 24, was indicted on multiple counts, including three counts of first-degree murder and animal cruelty, following the horrific incident at his Tijeras residence on October 13, 2024, as reported by the Bernalillo County District Attorney.

Authorities arrived at the disturbing scene in response to gunfire reports, where they encountered Mestre outside, armed with a gun and a loaded magazine, as detailed in court documents.

Upon entering the home, officers discovered unsettling evidence of the crime. Mestre was reportedly attempting to conceal the aftermath, with a hammer, a bloodied meat tenderizer, and visible drag trails leading to the location of the bodies.

The lifeless forms of his parents, identified as Bertha Huerta Conde, 51, and Raymundo Mestre, 46, alongside his 17-year-old sister, Brielle Mestre, were later located in a gorge near the residence.

While in custody, Mestre allegedly confessed to law enforcement, stating, “I killed them and was going to bury them.” He recounted the sequence of events, claiming he shot his father in the living room and his mother while she descended the stairs but expressed uncertainty about what happened to his sister, as per the criminal complaint.

During interrogation, Mestre reportedly exhibited aggressive behavior, breaking through a wall before briefly escaping, though he was swiftly recaptured, according to a video obtained by KOB4.

In a previous court ruling, a judge had determined that Mestre, who has a known history of mental health issues, was incompetent to stand trial. However, a recent review overturned this decision.

Mestre is also facing three counts of tampering with evidence in relation to this brutal homicide.
