Mother’s Dark Deception: Draining Her Son’s Blood to Fake His Fatal Illness

Minnesota Mother Sentenced for Disturbing Child Abuse Case

A Minnesota woman, described as "heinous," subjected her three children to years of torment in a scheme to feign their illnesses and secure financial assistance for their care. Jordan Nicole Borders, 34, was sentenced to 39 years in prison after nearly killing her 9-year-old son by draining his blood in an attempt to convince others he was suffering from a mysterious disease.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison characterized Borders’ actions as “nothing short of horrifying,” highlighting the extensive abuse that lasted five years. “The crimes committed by Borders represent some of the most severe and painful cases I’ve encountered,” he added.

In 2022, medical professionals grew concerned when the boy exhibited “dangerously low hemoglobin levels” without a clear cause. Upon investigation, it became apparent that Borders’ other children were also experiencing unexplained ailments, for which she had amassed tens of thousands of dollars in treatment funds.

Her 8-year-old daughter was made to wear an unprescribed hearing aid, leading to a painful boil on her ear, while her 11-year-old son was kept in a cast for over two years, purportedly due to brittle bone disease.

When questioned by authorities, the children revealed that Borders had been extracting blood from her 9-year-old son using a syringe, leaving him feeling "sick and sleepy." She also engaged with others online, soliciting assistance for end-of-life care for her son.

The children further disclosed that their mother would induce vomiting during medical visits to fabricate symptoms. They experienced physical abuse as well, including beatings with cords, belts, and spoons, and were threatened with starvation and death. Disobedience resulted in punishments like being made to stand outside without clothes.

Throughout this ordeal, Borders received Medicaid support and contributions from charitable organizations intended for her children’s fabricated health issues.

At the sentencing, prosecutor Dominika Kins stated, “The medical issues were manufactured by Borders.” She emphasized the profound betrayal of trust, stating, “She abused her role as a parent and robbed her children of a proper childhood.”

Borders faced charges that included attempted murder, child torture, and theft by representation. Ellison remarked on the gravity of the case, saying, “The evidence we presented is deeply upsetting, illustrating the immense physical and psychological suffering Borders inflicted on her children. I encourage all Minnesotans to join me in wishing for the children’s recovery.”

Following the abuse, the 9-year-old was placed in protective custody in May 2022, while the remaining two children were removed in July. Borders has lost her parental rights to all three children.

In a court statement, Borders’ mother expressed her anguish over being kept from her grandchildren and revealed her relief at the prospect of finally seeing them again.
