Memphis Man Shoots Wife and Makes Beer Run Before Hospital
A Memphis resident allegedly shot his wife in the stomach and then detoured to buy beer before heading to the hospital, as reported by local authorities.
Decarlo Pitchford, 51, confronted his wife on July 19 at their residence in Tennessee during a dispute triggered by her intention to leave him. Reports indicate he drew a firearm following her threat to leave, stating, “I told you to stop playing with me,” just before he pulled the trigger on his Ruger handgun.
After inflicting the injury, Pitchford proceeded to drive his wounded wife in a Dodge Ram towards Methodist University Hospital. However, en route, he reportedly made a stop to purchase a beer, although specific details about this stop, including its location and duration, remain unclear, according to a post from the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office.
Pitchford initially told law enforcement that he thought the gun was malfunctioning and that the shooting was accidental. Contrarily, his wife contended that the act was intentional.
As a result of the incident, Pitchford faces several charges, including attempted second-degree murder, domestic assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and theft of property, according to available court documents.
