Lightning Strikes Again: Golfer Hit at New Jersey Course
A golfer was struck by lightning at a well-known golf course in New Jersey on Sunday, occurring only weeks after a similar incident claimed a player’s life.
The 36-year-old man, whose name has not been released, suffered a cardiac arrest after being hit between the second and sixteenth holes at Pinch Brook Golf Course in Florham Park shortly after 6 p.m.
Eyewitnesses, including a retired captain from the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, promptly performed CPR after observing the man lose consciousness and stop breathing, according to police reports.
The victim was quickly transported to a local hospital in critical condition before being moved to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center for more intensive care.
“We commend the rapid response and life-saving actions taken by both trained medical personnel and civilians eager to assist a stranger,” said Brian Ford, a spokesperson for the Florham Park Police.
As of early Monday, the golfer’s exact condition remains unclear.
This incident marks the second time a golfer has been struck by lightning in New Jersey this summer.
Simon John Mariani, 28, was hit at Ballyowen Golf Course in Hardyston on July 8 as intense storms passed through the region. He succumbed to his injuries one week later.
