WASHINGTON — Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, appealed to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) for assistance with his escalating legal expenses related to federal tax and firearm charges he faced last year, according to a forthcoming exposé.
While the DNC was covering legal costs associated with President Biden’s separate investigation into the handling of classified documents, it reportedly declined to help with Hunter’s additional legal fees, as detailed in the book “2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America.”
As of June 2024, Hunter’s legal challenges had seen his so-called “sugar brother,” Kevin Morris, settle over $2 million in tax arrears connected to one of Hunter’s criminal matters, in addition to covering ongoing legal expenses.
These financial obligations included monthly alimony payments to his ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle, and child support for Lunden Roberts, the mother of his daughter, Navy Joan, as outlined in a settlement from June 2023.
By January 2024, as the presidential race intensified, Hunter’s legal debts had soared to approximately $5 million, as testified by Morris to House Republican investigators.
Morris’ daughter later claimed that Hunter exploited her father’s financial generosity.
Last month, the legal firm representing Hunter filed a lawsuit against him, alleging he failed to pay over $50,000 in legal fees.
On June 11, 2024, Hunter was convicted on three felony gun charges and pleaded guilty to multiple tax felonies for not paying $1.4 million owed to the IRS by September.
Earlier this year, his father granted him a controversial pardon for these offenses and any potential crimes committed between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024.
President Biden reportedly expressed his primary concern about his son’s legal fate to close associates before Hunter’s initial conviction, as noted by authors Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager, and Isaac Arnsdorf in their upcoming book, due for release on July 8.
The president had also contemplated establishing a legal defense fund for Hunter in response to both the federal investigation and a related congressional inquiry into potential foreign influence that could implicate him.
Representatives from the DNC and Hunter Biden’s former attorney, Abbe Lowell, did not provide responses to inquiries.
