Honduran Fugitive Apprehended in New York After Escaping Sentencing Back Home
A fugitive from Honduras, listed among the “Top 10 Most Wanted” individuals in the country, has been captured in New York after avoiding a 44-year prison term. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of Olivin Martinez Coto on Long Island, where he had reportedly been in hiding.
Coto faced severe charges in Honduras, including aggravated femicide – a designation for murder motivated by the victim’s gender. He was also found guilty of attempted homicide and home invasion.
ICE highlighted that Coto had been deported twice previously and had never lawfully entered the United States. “He has demonstrated a blatant disregard for our immigration laws and showed no remorse for his arrest,” ICE stated via social media.
Officials indicated they remain uncertain about how Coto re-entered the country after his last removal on February 27, 2019. ICE emphasized its commitment to locating, detaining, and deporting international fugitives, asserting, “The United States is not a sanctuary for criminal aliens.”

Statistics reveal a 15% decline in encounters compared to March, with substantial reductions from previous months. For instance, December 2023 saw an alarming average of approximately 11,000 daily encounters.
In recent communications, Homan reiterated that none of those captured in June were permitted entry into the U.S., underscoring that the Trump administration presided over a historically secure border, as evidenced by the statistics. He applauded the efforts of the U.S. Border Patrol and ICE, noting that interior enforcement plays a critical role in reducing illegal immigration, dubbing it the “Trump Effect.”
