A man known for his kindness was attacked with a baseball bat while attempting to intervene in a brawl on a street in the Bronx, leaving him with grave head injuries, according to law enforcement and reliable sources.

The 31-year-old victim stepped in when he witnessed two men fighting around 1 a.m. on Friday near East 175th Street and Walton Avenue in Morris Heights, as reported by police and witnesses.

The injured man was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he is currently in critical but stable condition, suffering from serious facial and cranial fractures.

The assailant fled the scene and remains at large, according to police reports.
