Georgia Man Receives Three Life Sentences for Murdering Child’s Mother
A Georgia man was forcibly removed from a DeKalb County courtroom after he spat at the prosecution, moments after being sentenced to three life terms for the murder of his daughter’s mother. Taco Nash was convicted of fatally shooting 22-year-old Mi’ckeya Montgomery while she held their infant.
Nash’s outburst followed the jury’s decision on July 2, 2025, regarding the 2022 shooting. According to video from the courtroom, Montgomery’s aunt, Jasmine Walters, remarked that this incident revealed the true nature of Nash, characterizing him as a sociopath.
The 25-year-old Nash received a life sentence without parole, in addition to two more life sentences and an additional 60 years for the murder of Montgomery, who was killed behind their child’s daycare on June 15, 2022.
Following the court proceedings, family members of Montgomery expressed relief, stating Nash is where he belongs.
Prosecutors established that Nash shot Montgomery, with whom he shared an 18-month-old daughter. Their relationship had been marked by violence, leading to a court’s restraining order against contact between the pair.
Despite this mandate, on the morning of the incident, Nash repeatedly contacted Montgomery, asking for a meeting to retrieve his belongings, according to Dekalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston. Montgomery did not respond to his calls and proceeded to pick up their daughter from daycare in Decatur, Georgia.
The daycare staff were alerted to the contentious nature of the parents’ relationship and were instructed to alert authorities should Nash show up. As Montgomery waited outside, Nash confronted her, leading a caregiver to hurry her inside while another employee called the police.
Nash then forced his way into the daycare, brandishing a firearm, and threatened to shoot Montgomery unless she left with him and the child. The trio exited through a rear entrance, venturing into a wooded area, while screams were reported by daycare personnel.
Law enforcement quickly arrived on the scene, igniting a search just before a gunshot was heard. Soon after, Nash emerged from the woods holding their child, who was covered in blood.
Montgomery was later found with a single gunshot wound to her head, and authorities positioned a firearm under her hand. Medical examiners concluded that the shot must have been fired at an angle inconsistent with suicide.
Investigators believe Montgomery was holding her daughter when she was shot, although the child sustained no injuries and was hospitalized as a precaution.
Before his reappearance, Nash contacted one of Montgomery’s relatives, expressing remorse for the shooting, as indicated by Boston.
Following a thorough trial on July 2, 2025, the jury convicted Nash on multiple charges, including Malice Murder, four counts of Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault with Family Violence implications, two counts of Kidnapping, Aggravated Stalking, First-Degree Cruelty to Children, and multiple firearm possession offenses.
Judge Brian Lake of the DeKalb County Superior Court handed down the severe sentence after the jury’s verdict was announced.
