Florida Parents Brian and Jill Griffeth Face Arrest in Fort White Over Child Abuse Allegations

Florida family Brian Griffeth Jill Griffeth arrested in Fort White for child abuse and punishment

Title: Four Adults Charged in Disturbing Child Abuse Case in Florida

Four adults in Florida are accused of imprisoning nine children in their residence, confining them in makeshift cages, compelling their adopted children to perform household chores, and subjecting them to punishment using vinegar.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office revealed that authorities became aware of the appalling situation on July 3 in Fort White, Florida, in a mobile home.

Among the nine children, five are biological relatives of the household, while the other four were adopted through a private process in Arizona. Their ages range from 7 to 16.

The individuals arrested in connection with the case, who face charges of aggravated child abuse, are Brian Matthew Griffeth, 47, Jill Elizabeth Griffeth, 41, Dallin Russel Griffeth, 21, and Liberty Ann Griffeth, 19. They were taken into custody on July 22.

The investigation was prompted by a report from a church official, who noted that one of the children possessed a functioning electric stun gun while at a camp in Branford, Florida.

Brian Griffeth initially claimed the device was merely a toy. However, law enforcement later confirmed its authenticity based on an arrest warrant.

Heightened concerns arose during a welfare check when officials observed the four adopted children engaged in household chores while the biological children were found playing or watching television.

Following their relocation from Arizona to Florida, the Griffeth family purportedly mistreated the children in a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home situated deep in Columbia County, approximately 35 miles northwest of Gainesville. The property was built in 2001 and last sold in March 2024.

Reports indicate that the adults had confined some children beneath a bunk bed, securing a plywood panel to prevent escape. They allegedly punished the children with vinegar and provided them with medication that had not been prescribed.

Jill Griffeth is further accused of making children lie on the floor while pressing plywood on top of them, leading to pain and injuries.

Brian Griffeth purportedly disciplined the children using a cane but ensured that no physical marks were left behind.

The adults are also accused of instructing the children to conceal their living conditions and failing to provide adequate educational opportunities in reading and writing.

One 14-year-old boy recounted being confined underneath the bunk bed for extended periods, only being allowed to leave for meals and playtime. He stated that he had to hold his bladder throughout the night until the morning.

Another child shared that she was illiterate and hadn’t attended school for several years.

A tenth child, previously a foster child who had moved to Florida with the Griffeths in 2024, was found safe with her biological parents in Arizona. She had called her mother pleading for assistance to leave the situation.

Allegations surfaced from the girl’s biological mother, who accused one of the Griffeth adults of sexual assault against a child in the household.

The four adults are currently held at the Columbia County Detention Facility, with bonds set at $500,000. Jill Griffeth’s bond is notably higher at $1.5 million.

The Florida Department of Children and Families has intervened to remove the children from the home, and all nine children were interviewed by investigators from the Child Protection Team during the course of the investigations preceding the arrests.
