Brave Young Boy Takes Solo Trip for Fast Food
A 5-year-old boy from Florida, who has a fondness for Chick-fil-A, embarked on a solo adventure that led him to the popular restaurant, sparking concern among authorities once they were alerted.
The child, known only as William, expressed fears about potential repercussions when officers arrived. "Are you going to take me to jail?" he reportedly asked, according to information released by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Monday.
William, dressed in an oversized red t-shirt, was already enjoying a breakfast sandwich in the company of a restaurant manager when law enforcement arrived at the San Jose Boulevard location earlier this summer, as detailed by the authorities.
According to the police, William managed to sneak out of his house while his parents were still asleep. He navigated through a fence and made his way down the street to satisfy his breakfast cravings without adult supervision.
The police transported the adventurous boy in a patrol vehicle, driving around the area until he recognized his home, needing to scale a fence to inform his unaware parents of his escapade. His mother, Victoria, stated that they were shocked when officers knocked on their door with William in tow.
“It’s quite alarming because we had no idea what was happening until afterwards,” she recalled during a reunion with first responders at the restaurant. “I know he’s familiar with the route to Chick-fil-A since we walk there together, but I never thought he would make the journey alone in the early morning.”
In a show of appreciation for the officers—identified merely as Kelly and Perri—William presented the two with plates of cookies during their reunion, acknowledging that they chose not to detain him following his daring outing.
William’s father, identified as Phil, described the incident as a "learning adventure." He expressed concerns over his son’s well-being, questioning whether he was scared or upset during the experience. “It was unusual for him to be so quiet,” Phil noted, adding that while the incident did seem to affect William, they had a serious conversation about the event afterward and addressed the need for caution in the future.
