Fighter Jet Intercepts Civilian Aircraft Over Restricted Zone in New Jersey
A North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) fighter jet was deployed on Saturday afternoon to intercept a civilian aircraft that entered restricted airspace near Bedminster, New Jersey, where former President Donald Trump is celebrating the holiday weekend.
According to a statement from NORAD, the unauthorized aircraft entered a temporary flight restriction (TFR) zone shortly before 2:40 p.m. ET. The jet successfully escorted the pilot out of the controlled airspace after performing a standard "headbutt" maneuver to capture the pilot’s attention.
This incident constituted the fourth violation of restricted airspace reported that day, with NORAD confirming a subsequent breach later on, totaling five unauthorized entries into presidential airspace.
NORAD acted quickly, employing its comprehensive defense systems, which include radar, satellites, and fighter jets, to safeguard U.S. and Canadian skies. The area over Bedminster remains heavily monitored whenever Trump is present.
Authorities are urging private pilots to conduct thorough pre-flight checks. A post from the 1st Air Force (America’s AOC) on social media advised, "If you’re flying anywhere near Bedminster, NJ, you’d better check NOTAMs 1353, 1358, 2246, and 2247. No excuses! Stay sharp, stay legal, and steer clear of restricted airspace."
Responses from the Federal Aviation Administration, the Department of Defense, and NORAD have not been received promptly regarding this matter.
