Two Arrested Following Violent Brawl in Cincinnati
A man and woman were arrested in relation to a violent altercation that occurred in Cincinnati early Saturday, resulting in serious injuries to two individuals. Notably, one of the suspects had recently been released on bail stemming from gun-related charges, according to law enforcement officials.
Montianez Merriweather, 34, and 24-year-old Dekyra Vernon were apprehended on Tuesday after an altercation involving a white couple gained significant attention online, as reported by WXIX citing police sources.
The specific roles of Merriweather and Vernon in the incident remain unclear.
The pair faces charges of felonious assault and aggravated riot.
Merriweather had previously been indicted on July 10 for multiple offenses, including receiving stolen property and weapons charges, according to the Cincinnati Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). He was out on bond at the time of the altercation, having paid only 10% of the $4,000 bail amount.
"This is your court system," the FOP remarked in a social media post.
Currently, the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office has three active warrants for further arrests related to the incident.
The announcement regarding Meriwether and Vernon’s arrests followed Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge’s statement on Monday, in which five individuals were confirmed to have been charged in connection with the incident.
The brawl, which prompted public outcry, unfolded outside LoVe, a well-frequented nightclub. Footage capturing the violence shows one woman being knocked unconscious and lying on the ground, bleeding from her mouth.
Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and former Senator JD Vance both condemned the "unconscionable" violence.
“I haven’t seen the full context, but what I witnessed is a mob of lawless individuals attacking an innocent person,” Vance stated. He emphasized, “In my view, a grown man who sucker-punches a middle-aged woman deserves a lengthy prison sentence.”
