Silent in Court: Chiefs Fans Face Trial for Alleged Murder of Friends
Two Kansas City Chiefs supporters maintained a stoic demeanor as they appeared together in court; a judge has mandated that they proceed to trial for the alleged killing of three friends, who were discovered frozen to death in a snowy backyard.
Jordan Willis, aged 39, and Ivory Carson, 42, were seated at the same table during a preliminary hearing in Platte County Circuit Court on Thursday, facing second-degree murder charges related to the fatalities of Ricky Johnson Jr., David Harrington, and Clayton McGeeney.
The bodies of the three men were found on January 9, 2024, in the backyard of Willis’ rented residence.
Willis, who was released on bond following his arrest, wore a light-colored shirt and slacks, maintaining a forward gaze during the proceedings. In contrast, Carson appeared in court wearing an orange prison jumpsuit as he remains incarcerated.
Both individuals refrained from speaking throughout the hearing, as captured in images from the court session.
Following a review of the evidence presented by prosecutors, Judge Abe Quint Shafer ruled that the case will advance to a jury trial.
Initially charged with drug distribution and manslaughter in March 2025, the severity of their charges was elevated to murder in June.
Medical examiners determined that the three friends succumbed to combined toxicity resulting from fentanyl and cocaine.
Willis is alleged to have distributed cocaine, while Carson reportedly supplied fentanyl to him. An investigation into Willis’ home yielded drugs, including a bag of cocaine predominantly linked to Willis’ DNA, alongside a bag of fentanyl with Carson’s DNA.
Further evidence includes messages retrieved from Harrington’s phone, suggesting that Carson had supplied him with cocaine.
According to a witness who departed the gathering before midnight on January 7, McGeeney, Johnson Jr., Harrington, and Willis had been drinking and using drugs together in the southern Kansas City suburb.
Ultimately, the trio ventured outside, where they succumbed to overdoses in sub-zero temperatures.
The grim discovery was made by McGeeney’s fiancée, who, after two days without contact, broke a window to access the residence and located the bodies in the backyard.
Willis and Carson are scheduled for another court appearance on August 6.
