Plane Accident in South Carolina: Single-Engine Aircraft Flips Over in Backyard
Home security footage recorded the dramatic moment a single-engine Cessna 150 overturned in a South Carolina yard.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the aircraft flipped during a challenging landing on a grassy area in Pelzer, South Carolina, occurring around 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 29.
The video captured by Vicki Coker’s Nest camera depicted the plane rolling over in the yard.
The pilot explained, in an interview with WYFF 4, that he intended to land on a grass strip adjacent to Williams Road but misjudged his speed. Upon encountering an irregularity in the ground, the plane unexpectedly lifted again.
Faced with a critical choice, he opted to flip the plane intentionally, believing it was necessary to avert further damage. The pilot is reported to have survived the incident, according to the FAA.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has confirmed that it is examining the situation. In a statement, the agency noted, “An incident occurred Sunday involving a Cessna 150 that flipped after landing on a grassy strip. The precise extent of the damage to the aircraft is still under evaluation. Given the significant damage, it will be classified as an accident, and an investigation by the NTSB will be launched.”
