Firework-Related Blaze Claims Life in Los Angeles, Leaves Woman Critically Injured
A tragic incident in Los Angeles resulted in one man’s death and left a woman, believed to be his wife, in critical condition following a fire fueled by commercial-grade fireworks. The event took place on Thursday night in the Pacoima neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley.
Emergency crews found the couple trapped inside their home while they were evacuating other residents in the vicinity. Unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, whereas the woman was swiftly transported to a hospital, where she remains in serious condition.
The flames erupted around 9 p.m. and extended to four adjacent homes, as well as damaging at least one vehicle. It took around 130 firefighters nearly an hour to bring the blaze under control.
During their response, officials discovered a gas leak in one of the affected homes, while the fire also resulted in several downed power lines.
Describing the chaotic scene, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman David Ortiz stated, “It felt akin to a war zone, with fireworks exploding unpredictably and power lines down. There was a large influx of emergency vehicles responding to the unfolding crisis.”
Footage from the incident captured numerous fireworks igniting, which perpetuated the sprawling fire. Smaller blazes were sparked as fireworks cascaded onto the streets.
Additionally, four other individuals and several pets were harmed in the incident, including a dog that required urgent veterinary attention.
